Athalia was the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel, when her son king Athalia died.

Jehu after being anointed by Elisha goes to Jezebel and kills Jorum and Ahaziah a double assassination.

In Kings chapter 11,when Athaliah sees that Ahaziah is dead she seeing an opportunity, filled with darkness and thirst for power, conspires to kill all the offspring who are in succession to the throne, HOWEVER there is a BUT GOD moment, Ahaziah’s half-sister sister, Jorums daughter Jehoshua, turns Athaliah and takes baby Joash from among Ahaziah’s sons before he can be executed by Athaliah. Joash was hidden in the temple of the Lord for 6 years while Athaliah reigns over the land.  In the 7^th year Jehoiada the priest who was Jehoshua’s husband.
