BIBLE STUDY 6-FEBRUARY 2- 29- 2020

Noach, Noah:  Part 2

Genesis 6: 11-13
The [population of the] earth was corrupt [absolutely depraved—spiritually and morally putrid] in God’s sight, and the land was filled with violence [desecration, infringement, outrage, assault, and lust for power]. 12 God looked on the earth and saw how debased and degenerate it was, for all humanity had corrupted their way on the earth and lost their true direction.13 God said to Noah, “I intend to make an end of all that lives, for through men the land is filled with violence; and behold, I am about to [a]destroy them together with the land.
So we see in these verses ready or not here comes the Judgment of Almighty God.So again we see the Judgment side of the Lord FIRST!

However......

Genesis 6:14
Make yourself an [a]ark of [b]gopher wood; make in it rooms (stalls, pens, coops, nests, cages, compartments) and [c]coat it inside and out with pitch (bitumen).

Here we see next the MERCY of the Lord God Yahweh,
By telling Noah to build the TEBAH, The Ark, the covering that would Keep Noah, his family, all the animals safe and spare them from the Mass judgment of Almighty God!

NOTE: The Word Tebah appears 22 times within 21 Noah Verses so it is being emphasized for a reason.

The other ark we talk about in English is the Ark of the Covenant
Contained the bowl of Manna. The tablets of Moses containing the 10 commandments and the budded almond rod of Aaron. HOWEVER, it is NOT the word Tebah but the word Aaron.

NOTE:The Word Aron is also the word for coffin and appears in the last verse in Genesis when Joseph died and was put in an Aron, a coffin, in Egypt.

VERY interesting in Genesis how Genesis 1:1-In the Beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth, so right out of the gate BIG things are happening, the Lord is quickly moving towards creating life, and By the end of Genesis we see the death of Joseph and his body placed in an Aron a coffin. So we go from In the beginning Life!! To Joseph dying, and a coffin. It truly is evidence of the downward progression of man going deeper into sin, how it started out so promising with the Lord creating and by the end of Genesis death is established

Lets take Genesis 6:14 and compare it to a verse in the new testament John 14:2:

Genesis 6:14: Make yourself an [a]ark of [b]gopher wood; make in it rooms (stalls, pens, coops, nests, cages, compartments) and [c]coat it inside and out with pitch (bitumen).

John 14:2: In My Father’s house are many dwelling places. If it were not so, I would have told you, because I am going there to prepare a place for you.
NKJV: In My Father’s house are many [a]mansions; if it were not so, [b]I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Now that word for mansion in the Greek qenim (mansions) can be translated to nests, just as is in Genesis 6:14.

So, in heaven we could say that the lord has prepared these nests for us in heaven as Noah was commanded to prepare nests in order to house and spare the animals from the Judgment of Almighty God.

Okay so now back to Genesis 6:14: Make yourself an [a]ark of [b]gopher wood; make in it rooms (stalls, pens, coops, nests, cages, compartments) and [c]coat it inside and out with pitch (bitumen).

Lets look at the word pitch for a moment:
The word pitch in Hebrew is KOPHER is used 17 times in the Bible. This is the first use of the word Kopher and it is the only time where the word is used to mean PITCH.

The other meaning of the word Kopher that is used 1 time is village
And then there are about 15 uses of the word that means a ransom or atonement.

A good example of this is what we know as the Jewish holiday yom kippur
Yom Kopher (atonement).

Kopher is actually where we get the word in English, covering, from because what did Noah do with the Pitch, he COVERED the boat with it that acted as a seal , a protective barrier, a covering between the ark and the water which leads us into the definition of the word Pitch:

However the 1st use of the word is for this word Pitch:
What is pitch?
  1. asphalt or bitumen in its soft state, called "slime" ( Genesis 11:3 ; 14:10 ; Exodus 2:3 ), found in pits near the Dead Sea (q.v.). It was used for various purposes, as the coating of the outside of vessels and in building.  Bible dictionary
  2.  The resin of pine, or turpentine, inspissated; used in caulking ships and paving the sides and bottom.
Basically used to ensure the ship or boat was watertight and able to float without retaining water.

The instruction with the pitch was:

Genesis 6:13-18
13 God said to Noah, “I intend to make an end of all that lives, for through men the land is filled with violence; and behold, I am about to [d]destroy them together with the land. 14 Make yourself an [e]ark of [f]gopher wood; make in it rooms (stalls, pens, coops, nests, cages, compartments) and [g]coat it inside and out with pitch (bitumen). 15 This is the way you are to make it: the length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits (450’ x 75’ x 45’). 16 You shall make a [h]window [for light and ventilation] for the ark, and finish it to at least a cubit (eighteen inches) from the top—and set the [entry] door of the ark in its side; and you shall make it with lower, second and third decks. 17 For behold, I, even I, will bring a flood of waters on the earth, to destroy all life under the heavens in which there is the breath and spirit of life; everything that is on the land shall die. 18 But I will establish My covenant (solemn promise, formal agreement) with you; and you shall come into the ark—you and your [three] sons and your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. 19 And of every living thing [found on land], you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. 20 Of fowls and birds according to their kind, of animals according to their kind, of every crawling thing of the ground according to its kind—two of every kind shall come to you to keep them alive. 21 Also take with you every kind of food that is edible, and you shall collect and store it; and it shall be food for you and for them.” 22 So Noah did this; according to all that God commanded him, that is what he did.

Okay, so here is the question, why did the Lord tell Noah to coat the INSIDE and OUTSIDE of the boat with Pitch?

Well…the Lord was going to flood the entire earth that it covered the mountain peaks, this means that this ark as not only going to endure heavy rains, waves, but a massive change in altitude as the ark rises above the mountain peaks and then as the waters recede this ark is going to come back down and have a significant drop in altitude, so if the ark is SEALED inside and out with Pitch it will stabilize the air and pressure within the boat so Noah, His family, and the animals would not have severe physical reactions to the changes in altitude as well as the boat being moved around so much. It basically creates some type of pressure sort of like is done with a submarine. A submarine has to be built and sealed inside and out so it can not only travel under water with all the PRESSURE that water puts upon the vessel, but also so water does not get into the submarine, AND the crew that is operating the submarine can TOLERATE the pressure, the change that comes with diving under water, the crew must be able to tolerate the change in pressure, the change in environment, and have their bodies function where all these changes are not severely affecting them and causing adverse health effects. Same as with an airplane and cabin pressure.

Now lets get into the dimensions of the ark for a moment to give you perspective of how massive this boat was:

Genesis 6:15 gives the dimensions and in feet it is 450 ft long, by 75 feet wide, by 45 feet high.

  1. 450 ft long is 150 yards which is, for all you football fans out there, 1 and a half football fields!!!! So this is a massively long boat
  2. 75 ft wide: 15 yards, so ¼ of a football field wide
  3. 45 ft high: is as tall as a 3 story building
This boat was miraculous for its time that Noah could even build something like this, how long did it take him?

Remember Noah did not have something called the Home depot that he could head on down to and order a mass amt of supplies of delivery, could you imagine?!! Noah did not have Milwaukee or ryobi drills, circular saws and power tools, there was NO electricity!!!
Truly the building of this ark had to be miraculous

Now I am about to present another meaning to this 120 years the Lord speaks of in genesis 6

Genesis 6:16: The Lord goes into detail about how He wants the Ark designed: (PLEASE READ).

So lets deal with the window on the roof first why?
Well.. First off where is the sun the sun is over us in the sky light comes from above so a window in the top would provide light into the ark for them first off.

Secondly when the Lord leads the Jews in the wilderness, Exodus 13:21 speaks of this, He lead or went before them it seems from above.

Exodus 13:21: The [presence of the] Lord was going before them by day in a pillar (column) of cloud to lead them along the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, so that they could travel by day and by night.

Now the door of the Ark is set in its side, the opening is in it SIDE.

When Jesus was on the cross and He said “it is finished” in John 19:34-35 34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. 35 And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe.

The opening was in Jesus side, Jesus was our Tebah, our ark, our covering and atonement for our sins: 2 words ark: tebah and Kopher: atonement.

I find it no coincidence the Lord told Noah to put the opening of the ark in where they would go to be COVERED in the side of the ark the same way Jesus side was pierced and blood and WATER came out. And here we see the opening in the side of the ark for Noah, family, and animals to enter through in order to be Covered and SAVED.

The Piercing of Jesus side was the last thing that happened before He was taken off the cross and buried, in a CAVE and Hidden Away for 3 days.

John 10:9: I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

So, what happened with Noah, the entered through the door and when they exited after the waters had receded they found pasture and began to raise their animals and farm, starting their lives over truly as part of a new creation because they were the only people on planet earth, and we will get into that later on…

There is one way to Almighty God, Yeshua, Jesus:
John 14:6: Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me.

There was only one way for Noah, his family, and the animals to be saved, to enter in through the door of the Ark, under its covering to be preserved by God and be saved!

Remember Yeshua, Jesus, is our Tebah, our Ark, our Covering.

And if Jesus did not come to this earth as the spotless lamb and die for our sins we were all going to be destroyed just as those were on the earth during the flood.

Now the 1st 2nd and 3rd decks of the Ark there is quite a bit of symbolism here!! And we can look at this a couple of ways.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 : And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

So in this verse you have Body, Spirit, and Soul being PRESERVED 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, decks PRESERVED Noah, His family, and ALL the animals.

We can also view it at Father, Son, and Holy Spirit:
3 decks in 1 ark, 3 in 1.
The trinity they are 3 but they are 1.
The 3 decks within the ark each served a function to house and cover either Noah or a certain grouping of animals.

1 John 5:  For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Genesis 7:1-3:Then the Lord said to Noah, “Come into the ark, you with all your household, for you [alone] I have seen as righteous (doing what is right) before Me in this generation. Of every [a]clean animal you shall take with you seven pair, the male and his female, and of animals that are not clean, two each the male and his female; also of the birds of the air, seven pair, the male and the female, to keep the offspring alive on the surface of the earth.

Now lets cross reference this to:
Matthew 11:28: Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Notice in the first sentence of both verses we see the Lord saying Come into or to Him. He did not say GO like He was giving them a command and sending them off no He was saying “COME”, Look at the way this is written, it looks as if God is in the Ark waiting for them and there is another clue to this coming up.

Now as far as the animals go the clean animals they were to take 7 of each kind equaling 14 of each clean animal.

The birds of the sky they were to take by 7's.

Of the unclean animals they were to only take 2 of each kind into the ark.

HOWEVER the instructions for which animals were ceremonially clean and unclean did not come UNTIL Leviticus!!!

So how the heck does Noah know in the midst of the flash mob that is descending upon him, which animals are clean and which are unclean?

Somehow Noah knows this. I believe the Lord did something miraculous where it was made VERY clear to Noah who was clean and who was unclean in a way that Noah could understand, because in a way the precedent for the laws in Leviticus was being established in the gigantic herding game Noah was playing

Genesis 7:4-7: For after seven more days I will cause it to rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and I will [a]destroy from the face of the earth all living things that I have made.” And Noah did according to all that the Lord commanded him. Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters were on the earth. So Noah, with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives, went into the ark because of the waters of the flood.
Here is the point we know Methuselah has died. Remember his name means “his death shall bring."
And we know Methuselah has died because Noah is now 600 years old and Methuselah dies at 969 years old. Methuselah is 369 years old when Noah is born.
Noah has his three sons when he is 500 years old, it takes Noah 100 years to build the ark, Noah is 600 years old when the floods come.
Noah and Methuselah are 369 years apart in age, add 600 and 369 and you get 969 years which is the age Methuselah was when he died, triggering the 7 days countdown, giving Noah the traditional time to mourn for his grandfather, to the 40 days and nights of rain beginning on earth.
So if say Al Roker or one of the weatherman were giving the forecast for such a time. It would be 7 days of nice beautiful sunny weather followed by 40 days of the worst rain God’s green earth has ever seen and we cannot see any weather beyond that.
Now the Ark, the Tebah, is the covering that truly incurs the honorifics of these rains, its taking the beating of the the Wrath of God against ALL humanity.
And Yeshua, Jesus, our Tebah it says in Isaiah:
Isaiah 53:5But He was wounded[a] for our transgressions, He was [b]bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes
[c] we are healed.
So Jesus, our Tebah, took on the beatings, the punishment, the wrath of God, the shedding of His blood covered us, SAVED us from the death and destruction that would befall all of humanity if an adequate covering was not utilized and sacrificed taking the beatings, the punishment we deserved. So you see the ark is far greater than gopher wood, or a boat it took the punishment just as Jesus, Yeshua, did in order that we may enter into a new covenant with Almighty God and relationship through His one and only son Jesus Christ. Noah represents us all the position we were all in and how those who obey the Lord, and walk upright before Him, those who call on his name shall be saved!!
