Passover Recipe Ideas

One classic Passover recipe is gefilte fish. This traditional Jewish dish is made from ground fish, usually carp, mixed with onions, eggs, matzo meal, and other seasonings. The mixture is then formed into balls or patties and simmered in fish stock. It may not sound very appealing to some, but give it a chance and you might be surprised at how delicious it can be!

Another must-have Passover dish is matzo brei. It's a simple recipe that involves soaking matzo in water or milk, then mixing it with eggs and frying it in butter or oil. It's a delicious and filling breakfast or brunch option that is sure to satisfy your cravings. Plus, it's so easy to customize with your favorite toppings like jam, cinnamon, or fresh fruit.   1. Matzo Ball Soup
  • Ingredients:
    • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1/2 cup of matzo meal
    • 2 tablespoons of chicken broth or water
    • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
    • 4 cups of chicken broth
    • 2 carrots, peeled and chopped
    • 2 stalks of celery, chopped
    • 1/4 cup of fresh parsley, chopped
  • Directions:
    1. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, vegetable oil, chicken broth, and salt.
    2. Add the matzo meal and stir until well combined.
    3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
    4. In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a simmer over medium heat.
    5. Form the matzo mixture into balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
    6. Drop the matzo balls into the simmering broth, along with the chopped carrots and celery.
    7. Simmer for 20 minutes, or until the matzo balls are cooked through and the vegetables are tender.
    8. Stir in the fresh parsley and serve hot.
  1. Roasted Lamb
  • Ingredients:
    • 1 leg of lamb, about 5-6 pounds
    • 1/4 cup of olive oil
    • 2 tablespoons of minced garlic
    • 2 tablespoons of fresh rosemary, chopped
    • 2 tablespoons of fresh thyme, chopped
    • 1 tablespoon of kosher salt
    • 1/2 tablespoon of black pepper
  • Directions:
    1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
    2. In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, garlic, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper.
    3. Place the leg of lamb in a roasting pan.
    4. Rub the herb mixture all over the lamb.
    5. Roast in the oven for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or until the lamb reaches an internal temperature of 145°F for medium rare or 160°F for medium.
    6. Remove the lamb from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
  1. Charoset
  • Ingredients:
    • 2 cups of chopped apples
    • 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts
    • 1/4 cup of sweet red wine
    • 1 teaspoon of honey
    • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • Directions:
    1. In a medium bowl, mix together the chopped apples and chopped walnuts.
    2. Stir in the sweet red wine, honey, and cinnamon.
    3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
    4. Serve the charoset as a sweet and nutty condiment alongside matzo or other Passover dishes.
